PTO News April 2018

The PTO takes the air quality issues seriously and we are happy with the steps the board has taken to put in place the right people on the air quality committee. We keep all our meetings available to everyone and we are trading off times to have the meetings in the mornings and afternoons.

We want to thank everyone for a great talent show night! Everyone has been raving about what a special night it was.

Reading month was another great way to get books and authors in front of our kids. Thanks to our literacy committee!

Thanks to all for making this the community we need for our kids ❤

Greetings from this year’s Honey Creek garden coordinator,

On Saturday April 14 (April 15 if nicer weather) from 10 AM to 2 PM I will be at Honey Creek cleaning up the gardens (Playground, A-wing, and Gretchen’s House) for the season and I would really appreciate some help. This is an annual event that families (parents, children, extended family, friends, and significant others) can participate to get the gardens prepared for the season. You may have seen the email for the Earth Day celebration (Friday, April 20) and the Edible Garden will serve as a station for students to plant seeds and seedlings. Garden clean-up involves weed pulling, path and fence building, hose-laying, compost spreading, and outdoor fun and exercise. Please bring garden tools (though we have some if you do not have any), gloves, wheelbarrows, and the childhood spirit to work in the dirt. Come the entire time or any part of it; you may also want to pack a lunch. I will update the cleanup date at the beginning of the week of the event if it needs to move to April 15.

We are also seeking family volunteers to help care-take our school gardens (Playground and A-wing).  You can sign up by going to the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ltVeM7iVXc5i4nXTLK40d60VTOMrucZmOfi04eVRvtw/edit?usp=sharing . If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me (phone, email, or text) at the contacts below in the signature. Finally, I will be having an orientation meeting for first-time garden volunteers Friday, May 11th.  We will meet at the greenhouse at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.for a half hour orientation. This time is after school and after the PTO meeting. If you cannot make it to these meetings, but would like to meet for a hands-on tutorial, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your support and participation in our Edible Gardens!
