Fine Arts Committee Notes: February 2013

Honey Creek’s Fine Arts Committee is pleased to announce 2013 Talent Night, coming up on Thursday, March 28th.
Honey Creek Talent Night is a special fundraising event showcasing the many talents of Honey Creek students.  With a little help from parents, Talent Night is entirely planned and produced (and performed!) by Honey Creek kids.  This year’s Talent Night will feature a full and delicious dinner in the cafetorium, planned and prepared by middle schoolers; the Talent Show itself in the gym, produced and performed by Honey Creek students; and (new this year) a gallery-style exhibition of student art.  Talent Night is a fundraiser for the 8th grade trip, and is one of Honey Creek’s biggest (and most fun!) events of the year.
Talent show auditions are coming soon!  We’re very excited to have your student take part in this wonderful annual tradition.  Students interested in performing must audition to reserve a slot in the show.

Auditions will be held on the following schedule:

Dates:    K-1 Mon, Feb 11
2-3 Tues, Feb 12
4-5 Thurs, Feb 14
6-8 Fri, Feb 15
When:    During lunch!
Where:  The Pit (meeting room near the front lobby)
** If your student is absent on their audition date, we’ll be holding a K-8 makeup audition on Tuesday, February 2/26 (again, in the Pit during lunch).
What to do next?  If your student is interested in performing, have him/her signup on the sheet posted outside the Cafetorium.  Thanks!
Got a question about the auditions?  Please check the FAQ below!  And more info is coming soon… it’s going to be a great show this year!

TALENT SHOW AUDITION FAQ:
1) When is this year’s talent show?

The evening of Thursday, March 28th – as part of Honey Creek Talent Night.
2) What kinds of acts have performed in past talent shows?
Music, singing, dancing, comedy, skits, magic, hula hooping, gymnastics and more!
3) It’s an audition… what are the chances of my child being in the actual show?
In the spirit of inclusiveness, all interested students will have a chance to perform in the show.  The auditions will help your student prepare for his or her performance and help student show producers plan and organize the show.
4) How long can a performance be?
In the interest of giving everyone a chance (and keeping the show a manageable length), no more than 3 minutes please.
5) Can my student participate in multiple acts?
A student may only appear in one solo act.  Also, a student may appear in no more than two acts total.  This rule is to allow students to support their friends in group performances.  In other words, a student singing a solo song act could also appear with friends in one separate group act; or a student could appear in two separate group acts (and not do a solo performance act).
6) I’d like to volunteer to help out with Talent Night.  What can I do to assist this year?
We’d love to have your help!  We have several volunteer opportunities coming up for both auditions and the show itself.  A volunteering sign-up email will be sent out soon!
