Dear Middle School Parents
Welcome and welcome back! On Tuesday, September 13th the middle school will be leaving for Camp Tamarack. We will be having an informational meeting at the end of the first day of school (9/6 @ noonish in the cafetorium). There will be a middle school athletic team meeting immediately following the camp meeting. Going to camp is a tradition since the beginning of Honey Creek Middle School. Our goals for this endeavor are to get to know each other, build community, play hard and work hard together, and have fun! It’s truly a great way to start the year that has rippling benefits throughout the year.
We have enclosed a packing list, in case you missed the one that was posted with all the other “electronic paperwork” you have to fill out in the beginning of the year. Please note and respect that Camp Tamarack maintains a kosher kitchen which restricts any outside food in the cafeteria. Additionally, they willingly accommodate individual food restrictions, please inform us of any specific restrictions.
To be able to go to camp you must have completed the annual forms located on the Honey Creek website. The cost of the trip is $210.00/student. Please give to Shellee by September 9th. There are scholarship available for those who need it. Please contact Shellee for more information.
If your student will be taking medication while at camp, please give specific, written instruction and send the exact amount of medication for the four days in a baggie to Karen Giltrow the morning we leave (9/13). If they have an “as needed” medication, any extra will be returned to the student to pack in their gear on departure day.
Since building community is one of our main goals, we welcome parents to participate. There are many opportunities for you to come and help out with the activities. You could come for part of a day/evening, a whole day, or possibly overnight. Camp Tamarack is located in Ortonville, MI, about an hour from Ann Arbor. See Shellee to sign up.
Though the camp provides our young people with an evening snack, we find with all the activities they participate in during the day they are often hungrier than anticipated. We welcome donations for evening snacks. Some suggestions would be… apples, snack crackers, cheese sticks, granola bars, etc.
Thanks you so much for taking the time to read this rather long note and for entrusting your kids to us. We truly enjoy and are grateful for the opportunity to get to know your kids in this way. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, September 6th and are happy to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to email us, especially if you cannot come to the meeting.
