Middle School students are making the transition toward increased independence and responsibility for their own learning. Along with higher expectations and a more demanding schedule, Middle School students receive some power to choose subjects from a menu of electives: swimming, technology, art, band, and choir. These options are in addition to the regularly scheduled “specials” courses: gym, technology, art and media center.
An additional form of Middle School electives are the various “life skills” courses. Some of these subjects – such as yearbook, website design, and photography – are taught by Honey Creek faculty. Other courses are taught by parent volunteers. They may range from a semester long course on event production (culminating in the annual spring talent show), to cooking, finance, yoga and engineering small-scale robots.
