Director’s Notes: November 2012

Greetings all,
It has been a busy autumn. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare for classes as well as address a number of goals in our strategic plan. We understand that the number of professional development days in the last few weeks may have been a hardship for some; however, for the school to achieve the lofty goals set forth in the strategic plan, it is necessary to provide the time for them to do the work. In the long run, students will benefit through a more robust curriculum and targeted instruction.
On October 29th, the faculty met with the Southeast Michigan Sustainability team. The professional development focused on eco-justice and place-based education. Teachers were given time to plan and explore various opportunities for evaluation including the opportunity to review a variety of rubrics.
On November 5th and 6th, our faculty continued our efforts to vertically align our curriculum. This process will culminate in the development of a tool that will allow present parents as well as potential parents the opportunity to explore our academic and social curriculum by subject and level. It will also assure greater instructional continuity among the various levels. I’d like to thank all of the families who contributed to feeding the staff during the three professional days and conference days. The food was scrumptious!
Finally, as you know, the MEAP was administered during the month of October. Generally I do not receive results until late winter or early spring, but I will share them with you once I receive them.
Have a safe and joyous Thanksgiving,
