PTO News: October 20120

The PTO meets on the second Friday of every month, at 8:30, in the Pit. Every member of the Honey Creek community is welcome to participate, at any level and at any time. There are many ways to get involved, and you do not have to be present at the monthly meetings. At the first PTO meeting of the school year, we caught up with the Theme Committees, reviewed summer and fall fundraising activities  and events, and approved the 2012-13 annual PTO budget.

The Theme Committees –
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Wellness, and Fine Arts – assist the Honey Creek community by planning and implementing “bonus” activities and events. Examples include Try- It-Thursday and the Harvest Dinner with the Wellness Committee,  Lunch with an Expert and the STEM Fair with the STEM Committee, and a Fine Arts Fair and extra field trips with the Fine Arts  Committee. To become involved with one or more of these committees – with a onetime idea or event or on an ongoing basis – contact Deb Lentz or Jane Pacheco (Wellness), Serena Poli (STEM), or Sherri Borer (Fine Arts).
Over the summer, twenty Honey Creek families (and 33 children) participated in the Summer Read-a-Thon. Thank you to those families, and thank you to Trish Gearhart for organizing the event. Funds raised will go toward the non-fiction leveled library fundraising project. While it is impossible to acknowledge everyone who has supported the PTO, we’d also like to thank Rick Meader, who organized the Summer Picnic, and Matt Cyrulnik, who is continuing Bagel Sales. Thank you to Angie Tracey, who organized the Walk- N-Run-A-Thon, and to room parents, who have been handling signups for classroom needs and activities, have planned grade level potlucks, and have organized the Middle School Dance.

UPCOMING PTO EVENTS
Mark your calendars!
• Bagel Fridays: Relax with breakfast at the school on Friday mornings (or the last school day of the week). Bagels, cream cheese and juice, OH MY! There are also toasters available for use.
• October PTO Meeting: Friday, October 12, 8:30-10:30 AM
• Fall Festival: Friday, October 26, 6-8 PM. Planning starts now! Help the middle school students make a fabulous haunted house, design and run activity tables and games, or talk to STEM about their pumpkin trebuchet.
