Director’s Notes: March 2012

Greetings all,

With the month of March upon us, second through eighth grade students will begin taking the TerraNova assessments. Your child’s teacher will contact you to let you know when assessments will take place.  These assessments serve a number of valuable purposes.  First, they provide additional information regarding how your child is progressing and how we can best focus our efforts to support each individual student’s academic growth. Secondly, they offer a comparison on how our students perform on a national level, which provides us with the information needed to focus our curriculum and instruction in such away that our students remain competitive at the national level. Finally, administering a second assessment to all students keeps us in compliance with new state regulations and may open the door for additional funding.  If you have questions regarding these assessments, please contact your child’s teacher.

On another note, I’d like to remind you that students are not allowed to use cell phones during the school day.  Phones are available for student use in each of the classrooms as well as the main office, and teachers have been instructed to allow students to make calls home at appropriate times.  If a student is found using a cell phone during school hours, the phone will be confiscated until the end of that school day.  In the event of a second occurrence, the cell phone will be confiscated and returned to a parent.

Finally, Parent MEAP Reports were sent home just prior to break.  Reports were placed inside your child’s Friday Folder or stapled inside your child’s planner. If for some reason you did not receive your child’s MEAP report, please contact me and I will print a duplicate for you.

All the best,
