Teacher Consultant
Location: Honey Creek Community School, Ann Arbor, MI Employment Type: Part-Time
Salary: Hourly $50.00 per hour

Description: Honey Creek Community School was founded in 1995 with support from the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD). Honey Creek has grown from a K-2 charter school with 33 students to a fully staffed K-8 charter school with 250 students and a lengthy waiting list of families eager to attend. Honey Creek Community School was founded out of the community and emphasizes and maintains our relationship and connection with the community as well as a commitment toward ensuring children interact and learn from a diverse community. The response from the community to Honey Creek is overwhelmingly positive as evidenced by the strong participation of our parents in school activities. Our project based, thematic, integrated curriculum, small class sizes and strong student-teacher relationships illustrate our uniqueness as a charter school. Responsibilities:

The Teacher Consultant works with teachers to support students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. This includes working with the instructional team to adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities. The Teacher Consultant will also teach basic skills, such as literacy and communication techniques, to students with severe disabilities.

Prerequisites:

  • Current Michigan Special Education Certificate with Teacher Consultant approval .
  • Demonstrated warmth and compassion to individual children and their families
  • Demonstrated flexibility and good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work productively as a team member
  • Ability to design and implement instruction in the core subject areas and adapt curriculum and assessment to meet individual student needs
  • Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student
  • Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
  • Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress
  • Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities

Elementary Instructional Assistant

Responsibilities:

Instructional Assistants are expected to work as a team member in developing and implementing educational instruction and care to the school’s K-8 students. Instructional Assistants are to support the teacher in running a multi-age, subject-integrated educational curriculum continuously designed and evaluated to meet each child’s needs and goals as well as address state benchmarks. In addition to working with the instructional team, Instructional Assistants are to work closely with children’s parents and community members in supporting a curriculum which draws on experiences at home, in the school, and in the larger community, and which encourages parents and other community members to participate in the school and share their expertise.

Prerequisites:

▪ 90 College Credit Hours from an accredited institution
▪ Demonstrated warmth and compassion to individual children and their families
▪ Demonstrated flexibility and good problem solving skills with co-workers
▪ Ability to work as a productive team member
▪ Ability to support the implementation of group projects for interactive, integrated, and individualized  curriculum areas which address state benchmarks

After School Teachers

Provide a safe, nurturing, fun, and educational environment from 3-6pm after school for students in grades K-8. Responsibilities include supervision, activity planning, snack preparation and clean up, prevention and mediation of conflicts, and communicating with parents.  Salary ranges from $10.00 to $15/hour based on experience and qualifications.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma and must pass a criminal history background check, physical, drug screen, and Tb test. Preference will be given to those with child care experience and those certified in or studying education, social work, or another child-related field.

Lunch Teachers

Provide a safe, nurturing, and fun environment from 11:30am-12:45pm during lunch and recess for students in grades K-8. Responsibilities include supervision in the cafeteria and outside on the playground, prevention and mediation of conflicts, and communicating with teachers.  Salary is $12/hour.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma and must pass a criminal history background check, physical, drug screen, and Tb test. Preference will be given to those with child care experience and those certified in or studying education, social work, or another child-related field.
