Honey Creek’s approach to education is experiential and that means that learning opportunities abound outside the traditional parameters of the classroom. Students have a menu of options during and after the school day ranging from team athletics, to music, art, foreign languages and service-learning projects. Multi-age teams design and build lego robots in competition with other schools. Similarly, Honey Creek teams compete in a series of challenges at the annual Science Olympiad. The school’s garden and farm-to-school programs give students a literal taste of locally grown foods. Field trips extend the exploration to farms, factories, museums, recycling facilities, laboratories and other venues for hands-on learning. Grade-level camps help Honey Creek students to transition into more independent roles as middle school students. The Honey Creek team is always looking for ways to expand and enhance the ways students can learn outside their classrooms.
